This antique Chinese dragon Xi gold couching embroidery silk tapestry wall hanging dates from 1900. It is hand stitched, made of a blue silk fabric, with colorful raised padded satin stitch & gold metallic thread couching embroidery work, which tiny red stitches hold the couching work together giving it a contrasting copper color appearance. There are embroidered dragons and the Xi symbol for happiness and longevity, popular at Chinese weddings. This wall hanging tapestry was likely used as a wedding banner. It is fully lined and backed in a linen fabric. There is a fine blue silk hand knotted fringe trim edging on each end. The tapestry textile measures 52 inches long and 31 inches wide. It is in good condition and is a wonderful piece of Chinese textile art!
