This pair of antique Chinese silk embroidered butterfly robe sleeve band cuffs date from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. They are hand stitched, made of a blue floral, endless knot patterned cut silk fabric background, with colorful silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work and gold metallic thread couching work accents. There are a variety of intricately embroidered insects, butterflies and flowers. The butterfly is a symbol of love and affection. This pretty pair of matching embroidered silk bands would have been used on a Manchu robes sleeve cuffs for added decoration and symbolism. Each band measures 45 inches long and is 5 inches wide. They are in good condition. This is truly a wonderful piece of antique Chinese textile art!
