This pair of antique Chinese silk embroidered butterfly bat robe sleeve band cuffs date from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is hand stitched, made of a burnt orange cinnabar color silk fabric background, with colorful silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work. There are a variety of intricately embroidered butterflies, bats and flowers. The butterfly is a symbol of love and affection, the bat is a symbol of happiness and longevity. This uncut unused pretty pair of matching embroidered silk bands would have been used on a Manchu robes sleeve cuffs for added decoration and symbolism. Each band measures 20 inches long, 3 1/2 inches wide and the uncut fabric is 40 inches by 15 inches. It is in good unused condition, with only some slight fade discoloration. This is truly a wonderful piece of antique Chinese textile art! |
