This pair of antique Chinese silk embroidered forbidden stitch peony robe sleeve band cuffs date from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. They are hand stitched, made of a bright golden yellow silk fabric background, with colorful silk raised padded satin stitch and forbidden stitch Peking knot hand embroidery work. There are embroidered peony flowers, butterflies and bats which represent love, affection, happiness and longevity. This pretty pair of matching embroidered silk bands would have been used on a Manchu robes sleeve cuffs for added decoration and symbolism. They are attached at the bottom with the original paper tag and numbered. Each band measures 24 inches long and is 6 inches wide. They are in good condition. This is truly a wonderful piece of antique Chinese textile art! |
