This antique Chinese silk couching embroidered pheasant opium pipe pouch purse bag dates from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is hand stitched and made of royal blue silk fabric, with gold and silver metallic thread couching embroidery work, which tiny red stitches hold the couching work together giving it a contrasting copper color appearance. Both sides of the bag have the same embroidered scene of a golden pheasant bird perched onto a peony flower. This pretty pouch purse bag has a unique long shape, with a top opening for carrying. The pouch would have been used to hold and carry a opium pipe. It measures 21 inches long and is 7 1/2 inches wide.
