This pair of antique Chinese yellow silk embroidered forbidden stitch robe sleeve band cuffs date from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. They are hand stitched, made of a royal yellow huang silk damask weave fabric. There are colorful intricately done silk raised padded satin stitch and forbidden stitch Peking knot hand embroidery work. There are embroidered butterflies and peony flowers which represent love and affection. This pretty pair of matching embroidered silk bands would have been used on a Manchu court robe sleeve cuffs for added decoration and symbolism. Each band measures 21 inches long and is 5 1/2 inches wide. They are in good condition, with some wear, faint stains and creasing folds. This is truly a wonderful piece of antique Chinese textile art! |
