|
This antique Chinese silver couching paradise flycatcher bird 9th rank badge pair dates from the 1920s. It is made of a black silk background, with silver metallic thread couching embroidery work, which tiny silver stitches hold the couching work together. There is a paradise flycatcher bird in the center, with clouds, a sun disk on the right for a female badge and waves of water embroidered on the bottom. The buzi badge is of the paradise flycatcher which is the symbol of the ninth civil rank badge. This unused pair of badges are attached at the bottom and would have been folded, sewn together made into a purse or pillow, perhaps for the tourist market. It is fully lined backed inside in blue silk, with a "Made in China" old paper label tag. Each badge measures 8 by 8 inches and is in good unused condition.
