This antique Chinese silk embroidered crane bird first rank badge dates from the early 1900s towards the end of the Qing Dynasty. The badge is made of a black silk background, with colorful hand stitched raised padded satin stitch embroidery work. There is a white crane bird in the center, with the Eight Buddhist symbols of good fortune, bats, butterflies and waves of water along the bottom. The buzi badge is of the crane which is the first rank civil official badge and is a symbol of longevity and wisdom. Someone has created a pillow cover out of the square with a black silk backing, slit opening, rope cord edging and tassel fringe trim on the bottom corner. There is some missing thread embroidery work on the rock the bird is standing on and some slight fraying of the black silk backing. The badge measures 11 1/2 by 11 1/2 inches. This is a wonderful piece of antique Chinese textile art! |
