Vintage End of WWII Allies British Red Cross Signature Embroidered Linen Tablecloth. Tweet

This amazing antique WWII allies British Red Cross signature embroidered linen tablecloth dates from 1940 to 1945. It is made of a white fine Irish linen fabric, with a drawn cut work framed border edging, red and blue hand stitched, embroidered red crosses and signatures. This war time piece was created by the British Red Cross in an effort to raise money which they raised 50 pounds. Four allied countries flags, USA, Britain, USSR and China are embroidered in the center along with V-J Day 15-8-45 end of war date. There is Queen Victoria's monogram cut from her nightgown and appliqued onto the tablecloth (see close-up). There are a variety of embroidered signatures and dates throughout including thoughtful sentiments and a reference to Hiroshima (see close-up). The tablecloth measures 52 by 55 inches. It is in good condition, has not been cleaned and has several faint age spots stains and a small mend patched repair (see close-up). This is truly a rare and wonderful important piece of World War II history and textile art! |
