This antique Chinese hand painted silver leaf feathers gold lacquer fan and box dates from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is made of white goose feathers with hand painted silver leaf Chinese figural designs of court women, flowers and butterflies, outlined in blue and green, with soft down feather trim edging along the top. There are black lacquer gold painted decorative sticks and guards, with a mother of pearl rivet attached onto the bottom holding the fan together. This fabulous fan comes in the original woven silk fabric covered box, with Chinese calligraphy characters paper label on the end. The fan measures 12 inches long and 24 inches wide when opened. It is in good condition, with a few small frays breaks along the painted feathers (see close-up). This is truly an amazing and rare piece of antique Chinese hand painted textile art!
