This antique Chinese silk embroidered forbidden stitch dragon bat badge purse dates from the early 1900s towards the end of the Qing Dynasty. The badge square is made of a black silk background, with colorful intricately done forbidden stitch and Pekinese stitch hand embroidery work. There is a dragon, flaming fire pearl and pair of bats in the center, with smoke clouds, waves of water along the bottom and a decorative floral trim border edging. Two matching embroidered square badges have been sewn together creating a purse with a rounded corner bottom, scalloped edge thread loop top for inserting a drawstring closure carrying strap, white silk tassel fringe trim on the sides and is fully lined in a bright blue silk lining. The purse measures 11 1/2 by 11 inches. It is in good condition, just missing the top closure lacing. This is truly a rare and wonderful piece of antique Chinese textile art!
