Antique Chinese Red Silk Gold Couching Bat Ji Swastika Fan Case Holder Purse. Tweet
|
This antique Chinese red silk gold couching bat, ji, swastika fan case holder purse dates from the mid 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is hand stitched, made of a red silk fabric, with gold metallic thread couching embroidery work, in which tiny red stitches hold the couching work together giving it a contrasting copper color appearance. There are precious objects of coins, bats, ji & xi characters for luck, joy and the swastika for longevity. This beautiful long purse would have held a Chinese hand fan and would have been attached along the belted waist since there were no pockets on clothing for carrying. The case measures 12 inches long and is 2 inches wide. It is in as-is fair condition, with several loose gold threads couching work and some fraying of the silk fabric bottom. This is truly a wonderful piece of antique Chinese textile art! |
