This antique Victorian Civil War era document wool mohair carpet bag purse dates from the 1860s. It is hand stitched, made of a colorful floral pattern design wool mohair fabric, with red and white braided rope trim edging. There is a hard bottom covered with black oil cloth leather and two brass feet. This charming carpet bag is the smaller document size used for traveling and carrying important papers and supplies. It is lined in linen, with a brass lock clasp closure which is missing the key. The bag measures 16 by 14 inches. It is in good condition, with some wear and worn spots along the mohair carpet fabric in areas. There is some frayed holes and faint age spots on the inside linen lining. This is truly a rare and amazing piece of early American antique textile art!
