|
This antique Chinese orange silk Peking stitch embroidery bat, swastika fan case holder purse dates from the mid 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is hand stitched, made of a orange silk fabric, with colorful Peking stitch hand embroidery work backstitching and gold metallic thread couching work outlining. There are embroidered precious objects of a Ruyi scepter for prosperity, bats, flowers and the swastika symbol which is the Chinese character for ten thousand and longevity. This beautiful long purse would have held a Chinese hand fan and would have been attached along the belted waist since there were no pockets on clothing for carrying. It is lined in blue silk with a woven braided trim edging. The case measures 12 inches long and is 2 1/4 inches wide at the top and 1 1/2 inches wide at the bottom. It is in good condition, with only some fraying of the silk fabric lining. This is truly a wonderful piece of antique Chinese textile art! |
