This pair of antique Chinese red silk butterfly embroidered wedding robe sleeve band cuffs date from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. They are hand stitched, made of a red silk damask weave fabric with a swastika symbol pattern representing longevity. There is colorful silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work and gold thread couching work done in a floral butterfly design representing love and affection. This matching pair of long embroidered silk band trim would have been used on a Manchu wedding robe sleeve cuff for added decoration and symbolism. Each band measures 20 inches long and 3 1/2 inches wide. They are in good condition. This is truly a wonderful piece of antique Chinese textile art! |
