This antique Chinese Volong Canton hand painted peony flower vase paper fan box dates from the mid 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is made of paper mache covered with a hand painted design of auspicious Eight Buddhist symbols of good fortune and a peony flower vase on the lid top. The peony is a symbol of love and affection and is representative of good luck. There is a red paper lining inside with cut out shape for the fan and the inside lid has a "Volong Canton" label. This beautiful box would have held a Chinese lacquer hand fan. The box measures 11 1/2 inches long and 2 inches wide. It is in as-is fair condition, with some wear, rips and tears along the paper edging. This is a beautiful one of a kind piece of antique Chinese hand painted art! |
