This antique Chinese cinnabar silk forbidden stitch embroidery pouch purse small bag dates from the late 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is hand stitched, made of a cinnabar color silk fabric, with colorful forbidden stitch tiny seed stitch hand embroidery work of peony flowers, butterflies and precious objects. This pretty pouch purse bag has a small envelope style, with flap covers and a front flap opening. There are Peking, China export stickers attached on the backside (see close-up). These pouches also called pockets were meant to hold small things such as coins or seals since there were no pockets on the clothing. The bag measures 5 1/2 by 4 1/2 inches. It is in good condition, with only some slight fade discoloration on the backing, lining. This is a wonderful one of a kind piece of antique Chinese textile art! |
