This antique Chinese dragon gold couching embroidery opera robe and skirt costume dates from the 1950s. It is made of a green silk rayon blend fabric, with gold metallic thread couching embroidery work, which tiny red stitches hold the couching work together giving it a contrasting copper color appearance. There are hand embroidered gold dragons and waves of water along the bottom. This two piece theatrical opera costume includes a surcoat style open front robe jacket with newly added velcro closures, long full sleeves and is fully lined in linen. The robe measure 30 inches long, with a 44 inch chest, 44 inch waist and 21 inches long sleeves. Included is a matching embroidered fabric tabard style wrap skirt apron with front and back panels, open sides, an adjustable side tie waist and is lined in linen. The skirt measures 36 inches long and each panel is 14 inches wide. It is in fair as-is condition needing some restoration with many missing, loose, frayed gold thread embroidery work and has not been cleaned with some staining discoloration.
