|
This Art Deco antique Egyptian Assuit ecru net silver shawl scarf dates from the 1920s. It is made of a sheer off white ecru cream color cotton netting with thousands of hand applied silver studs completely covering it. There is a decorative Art Deco abstract geometric diamond design, with a tree pattern on the ends. These shawls are also known as Tulle-bi-telli, Assuit, Asyut, Assyut, Assiut. Tulle-bi-telli translates roughly as "net with metal". The shawls were made popular during the 1920s with the discovery of King Tut's tomb and were made in Assiut, Egypt. This stunning shawl style scarf wrap measures 84 inches long and 28 inches wide. There is a hand stitched rolled hem edging. It is in good wearable condition, but has not been cleaned and has some faint yellowing in areas. There is a tiny hole in the net near the center edging (see close-up). This is a great piece of wearable Egyptian textile art! |
