This vintage Japanese crane silk brocade pine embroidered uchikake wedding kimono dates from the Showa period 1930s. It is made of an off white cream color silk damask brocade woven crane fabric, with a colorful, gold and silver metallic thread raised padded satin stitch embroidered Japanese pine trees and flowers. The crane is a symbol of luck, longevity and fidelity. This magnificent unique uchikake kimono would have been worn by the bride at a traditional Japanese wedding ceremony. It is fully lined in a reddish orange color silk fabric, with a large rolled padded bottom hem. The kimono measures 74 inches long, with 42 inch long swinging furisode sleeves and is 57 inches across from sleeve end to sleeve end. It is quite heavy weighing over 5 pounds and is in good condition, with only some fraying holes along the bottom padded hem (see close-up). This is a truly a wonderful piece of wearable Japanese textile art! |
