This antique black silk ribbon gold bullion embroidered Bavarian German folk bonnet dates from the mid 19th century. It is hand stitched, made of a rigid rag cardboard base, lined inside in linen, with a cream silk fabric covering the outer back and gold bullion metal embroidery, sequin trim accents. There is black silk moire ribbon trim covering the front, top and cascading, draping down the sides. This early European Goldhaube, Bodenhaube, haube headdress cap bonnet was the traditional tracht German folk costume worn by the women of the Bavarian region of Munich Germany. The beautiful bonnet measures 15 inches around the face. It is in good condition, with only some minor wear and a few loose missing gold trimmings off the back.
