This antique Victorian era woven brown straw chintz fabric trim calash sunbonnet hood hat dates from the 1840s. It is made of a brown finely woven straw which resembles a more supple fabric, with pleated ruche tucks gathered support channels created from a colorful chintz calico print fabric trim. This beautiful bonnet has a calash sunbonnet hood hat style perfect for protecting ones hairdo while traveling, with a ruched gathered brim, brown silk fabric curtain cape flounced drape back, silk ribbon ties for securing under the chin and is unlined with only remnants of a brown buckram stiffened linen cloth fabric remaining inside. The bonnet measures 26 inches around the front opening, is 11 inches wide along the front and is 11 inches high. It is in good as-is condition, with frayed splits along the brown silk fabric back drape and is missing the inside lining.
