This vintage antique Chinese Bai Miao Minority children's festival embroidered tiger wind hat dates from the 1950s. It is hand stitched, made of a black cotton canvas twill fabric covered with colorful hand embroidered silk fabrics and silver metal trimmings. This whimsical children's hat has a yellow detailed raised padded smiling grinning tiger face on the front, with red cat ears trimmed in white feathers on the top, colorful pompom whiskers attached with springs. The tigers ferocious powers make it an especially popular protective image and would have been used to frighten off evil spirits. This charming child's wind hat has yin and yang symbols, peony flowers, pheasant bird embroidered roundels medallion appliques on the sides and back with silver bells hanging down on chains, an open top crown and is fully lined with a colorful floral print cotton fabric inside. These Bai Miao Minority Chinese children's ethnic hats were worn at festivals and designed to provide protection from evil spirits, demons, and ghosts, but also to influence the wearing with important qualities such as wealth, health, courage, academic success, happiness, long life, grace and beauty.
