This vintage Victorian Quaker Amish style black silk wide brim bonnet carriage hat dates from the late 19th century. The hat is made of a black silk fabric with ruched gathering ruffle trim edging the pleated high back and a stiffened cardboard silk covered wide brim front. This Plain people simple black bonnet Quaker, Amish style hat has a wide front brim, a tall round crown back which is lined in black silk and a black silk ribbon tie for securing underneath the chin. The hat measures 33 inches in circumference, with a 6 inch wide front brim and is 7 1/2 inches deep inside the crown. It is in good condition with only some slight faint staining on the inside lining under the brim. This is a truly a wonderful Plain people hat!
