This Victorian era antique jacquard hand loom wool black star center paisley shawl dates from the 1880s. It is made of jacquard hand loomed woven wool done in strong dark vivid colors. These paisley shawls were made in Kashmir, Persia, India and Europe in Scotland at Paisley itself. This stunning shawl has wonderful workmanship and detail, with a black selvage fringed border along the two side edges and a black wool star center. These paisley shawls were very popular during the mid to late 1800s with at least one being included in every better class trousseau. This sensational square shawl measures 66 by 66 inches. It is in good condition, with only a few tiny frayed holes in the paisley pattern which is difficult to see. This is a wonderful piece of wearable paisley textile art!
